Volunteers Needed- Marcus Hook Police Department Youth Aid Panel Program

The Marcus Hook Borough Police Department is looking for volunteers to participate in our Youth Aid Panel Program (YAP).

The YAP and training is based on the restorative justice model, encompassing the impact of the crime on the youth, their family, and community. The program is a police referral-base program for the youth (ages 10-17) who have committed a first time summary level offense. Through the process, panelists meet with referred youth and their guardians to gain insight to the offense and develop appropriate resolutions. The resolutions are assigned as an opportunity for the youth to acknowledge the consequences of their behavior. Resolutions which may be completed are offense-focused classes, research papers, community service, and special assignments.

Panelists would be required to receive YAP training through the Center for Resolutions in Media, PA. Panelists typically meet once a month or on a per case basis.

Anyone interested, please contact Police Liaison to the YAP Panel Officer Mike Smalarz at 610-485-1611 extension #232 or msmalarz@marcushookpolice.org.
