Veterans Day Parade - With Pictures!

Marcus Hook, PA, October 30, 2020.  With COVID-19 having turned the world upside down at the beginning of the year, the Marcus Hook Borough Council decided to postpone the annual Memorial Day Parade which has become somewhat of a staple in Delaware County.  In lieu of the Memorial Day Parade, the Borough will be hosting a Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 7th, 2020 at 12:00 PM.  The parade begins on 10th Street at the Marcus Hook/Trainer Borough line and continues to Market Street.  The parade route follows Market Street and concludes at Market Square Memorial Park, the Borough’s beautiful Delaware River waterfront park.  Along the way the parade will stop at every war memorial to salute our Veterans, this along with the honor guard will be provided by the Media VFW Post 3460.  Marching bands, drill teams, string bands, antique cars, civic groups, fire companies and others will grace the streets of Marcus Hook Borough as we celebrate Veterans Day in grand style.

The Parade will feature numerous marching bands and musical groups: Brass Roots Marching Band, Joseph A. Ferko String Band, Quaker City String Band, Avalon String Band, Hedgeman String Band and the South Philadelphia String Band to name a few.  Also participating are the West Powelton Steppers, Media Dixies, local area Girl Scouts, Antique Car Club of Chester County, and of course Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty.

We are grateful to have two Grand Marshals in our parade this year.  The first is Ron “Stanz” Stansbury, who previously lived in the Borough and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 - 1968 and in Vietnam from December 1966 - December 1967.  Ron was awarded two Air Force Commendation Medals as well as an Air Medal.  Ron currently resides in Wilmington, DE.  Our second Grand Marshal is Ed Hess who is a resident of Delaware County, previously worked as a machine operator in the Borough, and served in the 34th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army from 1943 - 1945.  Ed served overseas during World War II in Northern Africa and Italy and was awarded numerous medals and commendations for his sacrifices during the war.  The John McKenna American Legion Post 660 in Marcus Hook will be providing transportation for the Grand Marshals in the parade.
