Memorial Day Parade, Saturday, May 26th, 2018!
Marching bands, drill teams, military units, string bands, antique cars, civic groups, fire companies and others will grace the streets of Marcus Hook Borough on Saturday, May 26, 2018 as the Borough celebrates Memorial Day in grand style. The annual Marcus Hook Memorial Day Parade will begin at 12:00 Noon starting on 10th Street at the Marcus Hook/Trainer line. At Market Street the parade will head south and conclude at Market Square Memorial Park, the Borough's beautiful waterfront park.
The Parade will feature numerous marching bands and musical groups: Chichester High School Band, Chichester Community Band, Joseph A. Ferko String Band, Quaker City String Band, Avalon String Band, and Hedgeman String Band to name a few. Also participating are the West Powelton Steppers, Valley Forge Highlander Bagpipers, local area Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, Antique Car Club of Chester County, and of course Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty.
Serving as Grand Marshalls are James “Monk” Taylor and Tom McLaughlin, Jr. Monk served as a part-time Marcus Hook Police Officer for over 27 years, and was drafted into the US Army in June of 1968. Monk served in the Vietnam War from December of 1968 to January of 1970 in the 70th Combat Engineers. Tom served in the Army National Guard for 8 years from 1962 to 1970. Tom owns Lefty’s Irish Pub & Restaurant in the Borough of Marcus Hook, which was opened in 1936, and he took it over in 1970.
Following the parade the Vietnam Veterans of Delaware County, Chapter 67, will hold a memorial service at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Market Square Memorial Park.
