Borough Council Ratifies Local Disaster Emergency Declaration
On Friday, March 13th, 2020 the Borough of Marcus Hook declared a Disaster Emergency as a result of the COVID-19 Coronavirus, effective immediately. While we are not aware of any cases of COVID-19 within the Borough of Marcus Hook, this Declaration was made to enable the Borough to act as necessary to meet the current exigencies of this emergency if needed, namely by the employment of temporary workers, by the rental of equipment, by the purchase of supplies and materials, and by entering into such contracts and agreements for the health and safety as may be required to meet the emergency, all without regard to those time-consuming procedures and formalities normally prescribed by law, mandatory constitutional requirements excepted.
According to 35PA C.S. Section 7501, "The declaration shall not be continued or renewed for a period in excess of seven days except by or with consent of the governing body of the political subdivision." That being said, on March 16th, 2020, Borough Council voted to adopt Resolution No. R-20-4, to ratify the existence of a disaster emergency in Marcus Hook Borough. This disaster emergency declaration will be in place in Marcus Hook Borough until further notice.
